XTANT TRAMA 2022
SES VOLTES TEXTILES WORLD HERITAGE CELEBRATION

By Kavita Parmar & Marcella Echavarria
2022

17th – 20 June 2022

Following the success of the 2021 edition, XTANT, the global celebration of heritage textiles returns to the island of Mallorca with TRAMA (weft) as its theme.

The event features master craftspeople and artists from 30 countries, including:

Emily Bode (United States)
Alvaro Catalan de Ocon (Spain)
Sanjay Garg, Raw Mango (India)
Aurélie Hoegy (France)
Studio Daniel Costa (Italy)
Iris Aguilar (Guajira desert, Colombia)
Olga Reiche (Lake Atitlan, Guatemala)

The art and artisan market that will take place in the most awe inspiring setting, SES VOLTES, with the majestic cathedral of Palma as our backdrop is a must for anyone passionate about textiles.
This is a 4 day celebration of the diversity in handmade textile skills and indigenous knowhow. Artists, maestros and makers from around the globe bring their best work carefully curated to delight the expert collector and enchant anyone interested in design.
Under the beautifully whimsical dome constructed by all of us under the guidance of Architect Pol Taylor you get to take a magical trip around the globe with all your senses.
A culmination of the festival and its celebratory spirit, besides the market we have a full program of workshops, round tables, expositions and films, that is meant to inspire sharing, co-creation and forge real friendships.
Over 50 participants from 25 countries will be in the market this year.

What is Xtant?

The term “(e)xtant” describes that which still exists, that which has not disappeared, that which continues. XTANT speaks of looking back to move forward, of valuing the traditions inherited from our ancestors, of honoring the richness and diversity of our tangible and intangible heritage, of remembering everything that makes us human.
XTANT is part of a far-reaching global initiative whose objective is to establish a heritage textile guild for the modern age, with educational, commercial and communication components.

Educational program 7th/ 17th June

An invitation to weave together

A 10 day master course full of workshops, talks, debates and round table discussions led by celebrated maestros and maestras from the world of heritage textile craft, activism, regenerative agriculture and experts from the tech world working on the future (ethics, AI, Machine Learning). We need to calibrate our compass before we turbo boost into the future! These 10 days are meant to incite, inspire and elate both sides with hope and purpose.
Dr. Vandana Shiva, Satish Kumar, Lisa Gansky, Ryland Englehart, Brigitte Baptiste, Yogi Cameron, Philip Fimmano, Li Edelkoort, Birgitta de Vos, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez are some of the invited speakers…
